IBT Global completes first phase of digital printing upgrades:

Ready to take on offset industry with high quality

Xerox Nuvera technology

Troy, NY—IBT Global Inc., the oldest provider of digitally printed books, has completed the initial installation phase of multiple high quality Xerox Nuvera® 144 Digital Production System printing presses.  IBT Global will continue installation throughout 2007, replacing its current fleet of digital sheet-fed equipment.

“We continue to demonstrate to the publishing community our commitment to producing the highest quality digitally produced books,” said John Paeglow, President of IBT Global Inc. “Our very first customers were the scientific, technical and medical publishers.  Their quality requirements were very high so we had to develop the halftone expertise and use the highest quality print engines to satisfy their needs. We did and we feel the Xerox Nuvera 144 digital presses will continue to add great value for publishers’ critical quality publications.”

Chief Technology officer of IBT Global, Bill Clockel reports: “The halftone reproduction off the Xerox Nuvera system is remarkable.  With the capability to produce a 156-line screen with 256 levels of grey, the halftone quality is as good as offset. In fact, because there is no on-press dot gain, images appear sharper and can have significantly more detail than what you achieve using offset technology.”

IBT’s plan is to offer publishers offset quality on first printing, right through the print on demand stage, all at the cost competitiveness of short run digital manufacturing.  Too often publishers have to sacrifice quality when using their print on demand vendors, sometimes with a steep decline in the halftone quality level. IBT’s plan allows publishers to sell quality throughout the entire title’s life cycle.

Xerox’s monochrome and color digital products have been used by book publishers and printers worldwide over the last 15 years.  “More and more publishers say our products have the industry’s highest print quality, coming the closest to offset printing,” said Tom Wetjen, vice president of Xerox’s Worldwide Graphic Communications Industry Business.  “We are committed to the growing publishing market, and we will continue to provide them with the digital products and solutions to help their businesses be successful and grow.”
